Right wing ideologues, the American Medical Association, and the For Profit Private Health Insurance Industry lobbyists are the biggest adversaries to the concept of America having a single payer health care system. Or what the so called “free market” proponents & righties would love to label as. “Socialized Medicine.”

  2. TimeWarp66 says:

What we have in this country is not free market healthcare. We have corporate healthcare protected from all forms of competition by government. As to your “for profit” snidbit, everything is “for profit” the company you baught your: house, care, close, computer..etc. from is for profit. The profit motive is what keeps costs low and quality high. When governments produce or run institutions profit and competition are removed, leading to low amounts of innovation and lower quality of care.

  3. urantivirus says:

    No. I wouldn’t. :)
And from what I see. Neither would anyone else from any other first world country. All of which have national health care.
    Best of wishes for America.

  4. 70road says:

Anyone who thinks the present system is good must have never been sick, once they get sick (and it will happen) they will see just how bad the system is. Also ask any Canadian if they would switch with America.

  5. xaviqaz says:

Free market capitalism needs people comparing prices. Corporate capitalism needs central government interfering and third party payers

  6. cknight63 says:

(continued from last…) There are doctors, nurses, specialists, technicians, etc. to pay. Supplies and prescription drugs must be paid. Since illegals don’t contribute, hospitals and doctors must charge more to cover their costs and make a profit. It’s like a store that has shoplifters. The store raises prices to cover their losses. Insurance companies then need to raise their prices (or cut coverage) to pay soaring medical expenses caused by illegal immigrants. (continued…)

I smell the food police & anti smoking groups pushing for MANDATORY health check ups to see if the MANDATORY insured are keeping healthy as THEY see fit fro you! That'll open the door for the anti large breast groups to push for A cups for all the ladies!

No, we cannot always depend on our government for everything. I am no anarchist, but I don't want the government informed if it came time to have a surgery. Our health insurance needs ratified, but I don't want it to be in Obama's term, we have seen how his economic plans have been doing.

i'm hoping that as i am writing this-you have already called someone to take you to the emergency room

i work in trauma icu-we specialize in head injuries. from the sound of it-you have sustained a severe concussion and need to seek medical attention NOW.

the fact that you are having changes in your pupils indicates there is injury to your brain-this could indicate a bleed and in severe cases-these require surgery!!

please, please have someone drive you to the hospital (do NOT drive yourself), if there is nobody to take you CALL 911!!

head injuries are very serious and can worsen rapidly with no warning at all. you need to have a ct scan of your head done to make sure there is no bleeding or swelling going on inside your brain

  11. xaviqaz says:

Costs so much because there is no market anymore like in the 50s or 60s (even the 40s and 30s) when the healthcare overall cost (public and private) share of GDP was 5% and 4/5 of spending was private. Now is almost 20%, and public spending is 50%. There is corporate medicine, not market. Merket needs price comparison.

  12. PGMEagle says:

No way will this counrty ever be like Canada were they have gov healthcare because the private insurance companies would be lobbying out the ying yang

  13. Heather R says:

There is no one best company and with health insurance you get what you pay for.

Visit a local agent that works with all the major companies in your area. The agent can find the best plan for your situation and budget and can explain what you get and, more importantly, what you won't get with any plan. There is no extra charge using an agent.

Most individual policies don't include dental and vision. Some will have limited dental and vision as an optional benefit at an additional cost but when you do the math you are generally better off without the coverage. The agent can show you the plans with this option.

Do not try to do this over the internet. It'll take you several days to intelligently compare all the plans available. Also, if you have any pre-existing conditions that might add a rider to the policy, cause you to be declined, or if you are out of the height and weight guidelines you won't know until you've applied and gone through the underwriting process.

  14. H2theDizzo says:

You received a lot of good suggestions for getting seen by a doc without health ins. You can also see, if you are eligible for medi-cal. If you're a student, most colleges have free health care & can direct you to other sources.

  15. cknight63 says:

(continued…part 3…) Do not blame insurance companies for this. Put the blame where it belongs: on our wonderful politicians. How to solve it? Deport the illegal immigrants or give them amnesty and make them contribute to the system. Make them pay their own medical expenses like everyone else is expected to do. Whenever you pay high premiums or are denied coverage, thank a politician.

This video is way off base as to the root cause. Rates went up when illegals came en masse. 2+2=4. Think!

  18. Jill S says:

I am not only going to answer this quesiton, but i am going to respond to the stupid ignorant people who criticized this question. Take you fat lazy ass down to your local welfare office. You do not have to prove citizenship to get benefits. Illegals come accross the border and they get dropped off at the local county welfare office. They get forms in spanish, and they get someone to speak spanish to them to help them. They get section 8 housing, money, food stamps and Health insurance. In fiscal year 2005, California tax payers spent over 9 Billion dollars supporting illegals. That only counts welfare. That does not count schooling their children (another 5 billion) police, firefighters, emergency rooms, courts, jail and so on. Illegals severaly cripple the economy. They are worthless leaches that need to be shipped home NOW!! The only people that want illegals here and the people who hire them like walmart. Why pay an american $8 an hour when you can pay an illegal $4? The problem is bleeding heart liberals, democrats and the catholic church. These groups want you to fell sorry for the illegals and help them. I say bullshit, let them get off their asses and make their country better. Have any of you seen mexico or the other places they come from. It looks like a cat box or a cesspool. Here in california, everywhere the illegals take residence, they turn to crap. Broke cars everywhere, trash, they piss and shit in the yard, they have like 30 people living in a house. The do not learn our customs, they do not learn english, they are only here for money. What do they do with the money, well last year in 2005 illegal mexican immigrants sent back over $20 billion in wire transfers to mexico. They do not pay taxes and they do not spend it here in america. Do not be fooled, illegal are a cancer. Stop the handouts and they will leave.

If you're otherwise healthy, look for something with prescription coverage and a higher deductible. That should be cheaper.

As for specific policies, that really depends on where you are.

See if you might be eligible for coverage through your school.

Also, some states offer subsidized insurance, based on income.

  20. zei says:

healthplans.my-age.net – my family have this health insurance. It is affordable and has good coverage for dental issues.

  21. Heather A says:

"I understand that I work for a small company and our rates are higher."

If that's what you understand, then you understand incorrectly. Don't listen to politicians. A small company pays no more for insurance than a large company. The difference is that a small company generally doesn't contribute as much to the plan as the large company.

The biggest mistake I see people make is the one what you're guilty of. Why are you on the plan and did you use your insurance broker to help you decide whether the group plan was better for you or an individual plan. That's rhetorical and you don't have to answer because the mistake you made is a common one.

That being said, it doesn't mean you shouldn't be on the group plan. If you lived in New Jersey you're paying half as much as what an individual plan would cost. But, if you lived in Maryland you're throwing away about $2500 a year (and then some) down the drain for FULL coverage WITH maternity. And, of course I'm assuming you're healthy enough to qualify for an individual plan — that's the reason group is more expensive since you can't get turned down.

Find a broker that does business in your state and they'll be able to help you. You can try the insurance pricing tool on my homepage. It gives the prices of different insurance companies and works in many (but not all) states and also requires no personal information to use.

(Community guidelines state, even though no link is provided, that it's OK to accompany a good, on-topic answer with a link to your website, blog, or email to offer more information.)

Ignore the first answer. Insurance companies CANNOT increase your premium based on your claims and they WON'T increase your premium every month. Most guarantee rates for 6, 12, 24, and even 36 months. If you're going to answer at least give the right answer or give yourself an out.

There are quite a few top notch health insurance companies offering policies in Oregon.

Be sure to choose a reputable company like a Blue Cross, United Healthcare, Humana, Aetna, etc.

Compare quotes from at least 3 different companies side by side in order to find the best rate.

You shouldn't have any problems at all finding a relatively cheap policy from a reputable company because of your excellent health but you will probably want to choose a plan with a higher deductible (you can always choose a plan with copays for doctor visits and prescriptions if you like that way you don't have to satisfy your deductible before you get a copay for prescriptions and doctor visits).

Here is some more information how to choose the best health insurance company and also some information on Oregon health insurance specifically:

Yes, there ARE insurance companies that offer a base book of business which pays service fees, in addition to your commissions and bonuses. Also, you can qualify for All-Expense-Paid Convention Trips to some fantastic places around the world.

Some answerers on YA! who just work in an agency do not know all the ins and outs of the insurance business. BTW, Your First Year Commission, Increase Bonuses, Existing Service Fees, and other perks could be more than commissions alone in an agency. All your benefits are worth something.

These companies offer paid training, a guaranteed income to start, base book of business, life/health/dental/disability insurance, matching 401-K, company-paid retirement, and all expense-paid trips.

    American General Life Ins. Co.
    Met Life
    Monumental Life Insurance Co.
    Western-Southern Life Ins. Co.

All these companies at one time were known as "debit" companies, where the agent was assigned a debit, and went out and made collections. This was called "home service". Some of the agents still do this type of business, but it is not as common in today's market.

The home service, or debit, agents were in most of their homes on a monthly basis. They kept up on family members who graduated from high school or college, marriages, births, new home purchases, new jobs, etc. A great source for sales.

"Mom and Dad had this agent or company, so that's who I'll buy my insurance from". (Trust)

These companies still have these books of business, and when someone retires or quits, the company assigns the books to new agents for service. Most of the business on the books are either on automatic bank deduction, or direct mail.

These existing books of business are great resources for additional sales and referrals.

    Best wishes.

I live here in Mass. and did not know that you had to make under so much to qualify for HI. As usual it is the working poor who get the ax. Talk to your doctor,or go to the Medicaid office and see what you qualify for, you might do better if you go on disability,I think you would then get insurance too. You have so many medical issues I would think you could get free care at most hospitals. Hospitals must give a certain percentage of free care to people, and they have cards that they give to get the care, try calling the state house and maybe ask one of our senators or a representatve in your district ,they especially a rep. may steer you in the right direction. Best of Luck,I'd be interested in knowing how you make out.

  44. USA 0 EU 1 CHINA 1 RUSSIA 1 0= No national Health Care. 1= National Health Care. I live in the UK and I along with everyone else pay into a country wide health care system. If I am out on my motorbike and have a crash, I am taken to the hospital and my broken bones are fixed and I receive superb care and all at no cost to me at the time. The National Health System is treasured by the British. The Doctors and Nurses are loved and respected by the people . The system in the USA is shocking & sad.
