How I Deal With Family Health Care

How I Deal With Family Health Care

Family Health Care

Now that my daughter is getting older I am becoming more and more concerned about family health care. When she was a baby I would have to pay for her shots and her doctor’s visits with cash. Though I realized that if something horrible were to happen I would have to pay for everything out of pocket. Now to she’s getting older I want to take care of her health coverage. This means I have to worry about having a comprehensive coverage package that includes our entire family.

For my family, this wouldn’t be such a problem if it were not for some unusual circumstances. My husband and I have a family health care plan through his employer. However, because my daughter is actually my niece, and we have yet to officially adopt her, she is not allowed to be on our health care plan. We are now in the process of adopting her, but until then, my family health-care costs must come out of my own pocket. As she near school age, this begins to concern me more and more.

New York State does have a family health-care plan. If you live in New York you have probably seen the commercials for this. Though the commercials say that their family health-care plan is simple and easy, I have to say that I disagree. I have gone to the application process numerous times for my daughter, only to find her coverage canceled for stupid reasons.

One time they got my address wrong, and her insurance cards were returned to sender. When this happened, they canceled her insurance policy without trying to contact me and another time they lost my payment, and her insurance was canceled with no notification.

Until we can get our family health care problems under control, I can only continue to hope and pray that everything remains as it is. We have been blessed with a very healthy child, and her medical expenses thus far have not been very bad. I don’t think that I will completely be able to relax about the situation until we have her adopted and she can then be added to my husband’s employers family health care plan.

Though I never wish anything to happen to anyone, you can only sleep better at night when you know everyone in your household is covered. I cannot rely on the State of New York any longer.

population control, to save mother earth. FAKE

  2. The right thing wouldn’t involve taking money away from hard-working citizens, who can just as easily hand over the money directly to the medical institutions. But the truth is that the problems associated with socialized health care are numerous and having been raised in a country with socialized medicine – I can attest that there is more that people such as yourself and the Democrats in your country are not letting on. See the reports by those who actually suffer under universal healthcare.

  3. clarko95 says:

Wow, maybe all these anti-nationalization-of-healthcare people should give up their insurance and see what its like without it.

So maybe a few socialist countries have it nationalized. But so does almost EVERY DEMOCRATIC country on this Earth.
Caring for your people isn’t socialist, its the right thing to do. And thats what our government is supposed to do, take care of us.
How would you like your child, your spouse,or even yourself denied life just because you don’t have enough money?

In Ontario, we have certain regs and the gov pays according to those regs…. No insurance company is involved. All systems get abused but our system works quite well. Over 65, almost all my wife’s drugs and mine are paid for as long as they match the regs. If not your doctor can substitute for one that is covered. We pay the first $100 in each year and then the rest is covered. However if the system was any larger it would be less efficient.

  5. press4truth says:

CHADMAK09. You are confusing facts with emotion. Profit has no place in health care? Why not? My doctor makes a profit by treating me. Does that make him bad because he doesn’t do it for free? The drug company that spent millions on research and marketing to find drugs for people like my wife to remain alive does not deserve a profit? If that is the case, then YOU don’t deserve a paycheck! Profit is not bad. It is how the world runs. Try investing and you too will profit instead of bellyaching.

  6. Im from the government and Im here to help.

If these words send a shiver up your spine now… just wait.

What if the next time you hear that, its your doctor?

  7. hiodr says:

you dream of zimbabwe. there’s no need to wait. you can go there now.

  8. You need to grasp everything that's going on: One thing at a time.

Sit down, think about which thing your going to take on first, then what is after that.

If you try to help everyone out at once there is no one left to help you, some times it is okay to put everyone else's life on hold so you can figure yours out.

I know it's not easy, life never is, it's even harder trying to keep peace of mind.

    Good luck to you.

  9. I moved to the midwest from the bay area just for that very reason. However, we are now looking at Arizona, and New Mexico. As a health care professional even working with Indian health services pays well and I love the patient population. Taxes are low and the southwest is beautiful. If you like the cold then the east coast is fine yet you will have the same traffic issues you currently are experiencing.

What do you contribute dems? Other than a big mouth what do you do? Why would they give health care to a parasite who only takes, & gives nothing? What do you contribute that makes you so valuable that Anyone would spend a hundred thousands dollars, or more to save your worthless life? YOU will either become a slave to the state ~ or one of the first to be exterminated. According to you Fema is waiting. IT WILL be those like you who are removed. Try to Stay Healthy ~ & Please Have a nice journey

Fire you are right! Our system in Canada is not as bad as you hear in the U.S. It is mainly run by each province with some money coming from federal treasury. In the U.S. it would be disaster to run a national health care. Why not allow groups to be formed on a state by state basis or by a minimum number of participants to make it work. Then the fed gov and the state gov can kick in to help make it work. Smaller is better. The farther money gets from people who pay the more it is wasted.

  12. chadmak09 says:

    what a bunch of crap.
Our system is crap and you know it.
how in the hell is me doing my job relevant to insurance companys making profits by denying people healthcare for PROFIT.
    get real.
I am sure you have money and insurance so we know you dont care.
healthcare is not a privlage, it is human right.
medicare works great for seniors. its universal healthcare. so is medicare socialism and are we now communists.

  13. Socilaized Medicine= government rationed life. Therefore, it’s unconstitutional and immoral.

  14. A guy from Ontario had cancer with only one option for a cure. Unfortunatly, he couldn’t get the treatment anywhere in Canada. So the government rationed him to head to the states and went to New York, which is four hours away.
First of all he’s being sent to America, which is bad enough. But only 30 minutes away in Detroit, there are 2 facilites where he could get treatment. So they sent him away 4 hours for no reason when he could’ve just gone a half an hour.

  15. firetyger20 says:

I would rather see the government stop interfering. Government mandates have formed a monopoly between insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and the health care system. This is a big part of the reason why health care costs are sky-rocketing. They don’t even really let doctors do their jobs anymore. The insurance company dictates to the doctor whether or not they did “appropriate” procedures, gave the “right” tests, checked for the “right” symptoms, etc.

In BC We pay $ 96.00 a month for medicare hospital is free. drugs have a deductable based on Income. Thank God im not in the USA. BC is booming the Olympics are comming in 2010.

you really need to show a link to prove something like that, or you’ll just sound like a dumb ass.

  18. dems4amer says:

    Look it is quite simple
The entitlements (social security and medicare) do not have enough money so if you start denying care to people they die sooner saving hundreds of billions of dollars
This is the only way to keep the system going
It is how they do it in Canada, If you are over 65 you can not get heart bypass surgery, they have many other age cut offs for care
This make good sense as older people no longer contribute to society they just take from it

This country and will be just like Zimbabwe soon

  21. notrandom2 says:

This is not what universal health care is about and is only viewed from one perspective. This Indian healthcare issue is obviously a cause of our current health system as I still notice doctors acting as accountants. The idea is for our American society to produce more doctors. introduce even more information on Nutrition, and preventive care, not solely on last minute health treatments. Spread Info like a virus! Watch *food, inc* & *tapped the movie* – info for better health Google it ;-)

  22. dems4amer says:

Obama himself said he would stop people on medicare from also getting medicade to cover their medication
thiws will force them to stop taking their medician and soon they will not need Medicare or Social Security
    Works out well HUH

  23. press4truth says:

Being Canadian I have NEVER heard of what you are talking about. I do hear MANY unsubstantiated rumors about Canadian Health Care which are false. This appears to be one of them. Where did you get that idea DEMS4AMER?

  25. hiodr says:

ok, so you ignoramuses elected a commie, but don’t despair. the president has no legal right to play dictator or king. he must remain within the bounds of the law like anyone else, so don’t fall for this bullshit. it’s your country.

  26. unc68 says:

I am glad this has made it into the debate. I work in IHS around the country and it scares me to death the thought of government health care for all.
The quality of providers leaves a lot to be desired too, because the government lets any worthless doctor, FNP, PA, or midwife practice. Not all are bad, but it is enough to scare the hell out of you.

  27. Yes I knew about this. My company offers it but I went with traditional health insurance. I am glad I did because in the last three years I have amassed over 60,000 dollars in medical bills and all I had to pay was $1800 of it. But for someone who is young and healthy this is a good option for them.

Getting FREE Health Care for 20 million illegal Aliens is much more important than health care for any of our Native Americans… right??

After all, thats potentially 20+ million more votes (and growing) for Obama and the Democrats. Its all about the VOTES and maintaining power!

  30. The most sickening about the American health system is not only does it profit from people being sick or injured, but als the millions it takes in for the most incompetent and idiotic doctors on the planet. If universal health care existed in America, the only thing it would kill is the health millionaires’ profits, not to mention those of doctors and nurses. Ever wonder why the biggest critics wear $10000 suits and ride in limos?

  31. anubis says:

A nationalized health care plan would hopefully get rid of the health insurance companies and their massive, obscene profits.

In a nationalized plan, like Medicare, everyone pays into the plan every month, whether they go to the doctor or not. If one has a very low income, the government subsidizes their payment. Everyone has a card in their wallet (like Medicare). Everything medical is covered, with very small or non-existent co-pays.

When I lived in Canada (for 10 years), it was heavenly to have this plan. One does not worry about changing jobs or losing jobs; one always has the health care.

The government cannot turn you down for health care (like insurance companies do) because you may have a chronic condition, you are old, you have been sick, or whatever reason the horrid insurance companies give when they refuse you a policy.

In B.C. (Canada) where I lived, I would be paying $54 a month for one person for the health plan. You can look on the Internet site (BC Medical) to confirm this. A family of two pays $96 a month, and a family of three or more pays $108 a month.

The government runs the plan, just like the government has successfully run Medicare and Social Security for decades.

I sincerely hope that our new President, who truly cares about the people of this country, can work with Congress to pass a nationalized plan.

  32. I pay a fortune for “insurance,” but can’t find a decent doctor, lol. Many are from other countries, speak other languages, and definitely do not share my values (ideas about what’s right in treatment). Two pple in my family, like the girl in vid were seriously ill, but they tried to give psychotherapy!—you have to treat yourself, even if you have money to pay. In some ways, more money makes it worse. (More to take). Thanks for post.

It is admirable that you want to help your family stay healthy.

However, you cannot FORCE them to stop eating junk food and start eating healthy food.

Just do what YOU know is right. You're the only one you have to answer for when it's all said and done anyway.
